The Imagen archive management system is designed to give users
of various types access to the media stored in the archive.
Users can search the archive using very fast free-text and structured
data indexes using a web interface to the Imagen server, a sophisticated
Imagen client, or the standalone application.
It is very easy to browse the results of any search with
thumbnails providing an overview of video and image search
results. Users have access to several versions of the media
data. Images may be provided as thumbnails, small and large
screen resolution images and reproduction resolution images.
Video is usually provided as a stills overview, with thumbnail
images captured at regular intervals or at scene changes.
Several movie formats are also usually available; say a preview
format at 128Kbit/s and a reproduction format at 8Mbit/s.
More formats can be added.
Authorised users are able to modify metadata and media data,
with many tools provided to manipulate image and video files.
It is possible to have different levels of users in a number
of groups who can edit tagged portions of the metadata.
As the main use of the archive is normally to provide the
media files electronically, or on a physical medium, there
are a wide range of facilities to allow users to download
or order media. We have integrated Imagen with administrative
software and e-commerce software to allow the archive to be
exploited easily.
